King David had told the prophet Nathan that he was living in a house of Cedar yet the Ark of god dwells in a tent. Nathan then told him to go do what is in his heart for the Lord was with him.
That same night, the word of the Lord came top Nathan telling him to go ask His servant David if he would build Him a house to dwell in, that the Lord had not lived in a house since the day i brought up the people of Israel from Egypt and had been dwelling in a tent. The lord had not spoken or complained to the judges during the time the Israelites were moving because they had not built Him a house of cedar.

The Lord then told prophet Nathan to tell king David that He had taken him from the land of pasture, from following sheep,to be the prince of His people Israel. and that the Lord had been with him wherever he went and had cut off all his enemies and that He would make for him a great name, like the name of the great ones before him. The Lord also said that He would appoint a place for the Israelites to dwell in their own place and not be disturbed. The Lord Lord said He would also build a house for David and that after his death, the Lord would raise up Davids offspring after him who would come from his body and that the Lord would establish Davids kingdom.

The Lord said that David should build a house in His name and that the Lord would establish the throne of Davids kingdom forever. That the Lord would be to him a father and David His son.The Lord would discipline him if he commits iniquity but the Lords steadfast love would not depart from him as it did from Saul before him. The Lord promised that Davids throne shall be established forever.
