• They have got low levels of living- this includes low income, poor health, inadequate education etc. they have low GDP growth and low productivity of labor.
• They have got low total productivity
• They have high rates of population growth and dependency burdens. The birth rate in LDCs is very high. The implication of this is that children under the age of 15 makes up to 40% of the total population in the LDCs. This brings about high dependency rates.
• There is high and rising levels of unemployment and underemployment i.e. work available is not sufficient to keep the labor available.
• There is high substantial dependence on agricultural output and primary product export.
• LDCs have imperfect markets and incomplete information hence there is disequilibrium in the markets
• They are vulnerable and depend on international relations.
