(a) Lake Victoria is quite shallow. The shallowness of the lake allows plankton to grow in abundance
(b) The lake has several beaches and islands that provide good landing sites for fishing boats
(c) Fish is a traditional diet of the people around the lake. This has ensured there is a large market within the major towns such as Kampala, Kisumu and Mwanza. Fish processing plants like the ones in Jinja ensure preservation of fish. This has encouraged fishing around the lake.
(d) The presence of a variety of species which are of economic value. These include Nile perch, herrings and tilapia
