After the independence, the Kenyan government had the role of bringing all the tribes together. Kiswahili being the common language, it provided the means of improving inter ethnic communication since all tribes were to work towards the same goal. The role of Kiswahili since independence had been to help in promotion of social and economic development, stability in political debates, provision of sense of belonging and direction to Kenyans, and to foster peaceful co-existence between the different tribes. The countries integration has been achieved because of the ease of communication.
