Koch's postulates state:

The microorganism causing disease must be abundantly present in organisms suffering from that disease but absent in all healthy organisms.

The microorganism must be isolated and grown in a pure culture.

The microorganism must then be innoculated into a healthy disease free experimental organism and the organism should show similar symptoms of the disease to the original host.

The microorganism must then be re-isolated from the experimental organism and identified as identical to the causative agent in the initial sick organism.
