(a) Insecurity.
Cases of tourists being robbed of their belongings such money, camera, jewellery and pair of binoculars are common. This tends to discourage potential tourists from visiting the country.
(b) Poaching.
Illegal hunting of animals especially the elephant and rhino is threatening their existence. Many animals are killed by poachers using guns and snares. Poaching may eventually lead to the extinction of some animal species. This would kill a major tourist attraction thus affecting the number of tourists visiting the country.
(c) Terrorism.
Kenya has been a target of terrorist attacks on a number of occasions. The threat of terrorism had had a negative effect on tourism in Kenya. Tourists from America and some European countries have been advised against visiting Kenya by their governments for the fear of being attacked.
(d) Demand for land.
Kenya population has been increased progressively since independence. There is increasing demand for land for settlement and agriculture. This is forcing people to encroach on land that has been reserved for wildlife. This encroachment disturbs the natural habitat of wildlife animals and may result in the migration of some animal species.
