it is good if we begin the whole thing from understanding the definition of input devices, they are devices used to enter data into the computer for processing.
they are classified into; pointing devices, keying devices, scanning devices and voice input devices.
i) pointing devices:- they input(issue) commands to the computer. they move a cursor on the computer screen. they include like mouse, light pen, track ball, joystick
ii) keying devices:- this are devices that enable one to enter data such as text, into the computer, they include the Keyboard (connected using a cable to the computer) and a keypad (dorm part of the computer as for a laptop and a mobile phone)
iii) scanning devices:- this are devices that enter data directly from its source to the computer. they include; optical scanners, magnetic scanners and digital cameras. with optical scanners, we have Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Optical Mark Recognition (OMR)[e.g the one used in marking KCPE] and Optical Bar Recognition(OBR) [e.g bar code reader].
With magnetic scanners we have the cassette readers.
we also have digital cameras which take images of things from their scenes.
iv) Voice input devices:- these devices enter sound into the computer either for recording and saving or even to allow for amplification. they include things like the Microphone.

NB: any other device that transfers(enters) data into the computer for any for of processing is termed as an input device
