Temperature in the tropic region is high compared to that in the arctic region which is low. People in the arctic area have a lot of fat in the body, hence they are short and plump. The fat in their bodies allows them to retain heat inside their bodies since fat is a heat insulator. This enables them to survive the cold conditions in the arctic region. Also, them being plump and short exposes a small surface area of their bodies and hence lose little heat from their bodies.
People in the tropics have less fat in their bodies and hence thin and tall. This enables them to lose excess heat from their bodies and also they expose a large surface area of their bodies to the atmosphere therefore allows them to lose a lot of heat to the surrounding environment.
