1. The school needs to subscribe to an ISP (internet service provider) that is reliable, cost effective and provides fast download and upload data links.

2. Hardware. The institution should acquire computers that have sufficient processor speed, RAM, latest operating system, and enough storage space to run the software. For example; RAM (4 Gb and above), processor speed (2.0 GHz and above), OS (windows, Linux or apple OS) storage (above 4Tb).

3. Connection. A telecommunication connection with fast connecting speeds is needed for computers to communicate, e.g. acquire an ADSL of up to 1Mbps or cable broadband at 3 Mbps or fiber optic internet connection.

4. Software. They should acquire the correct software that is up to date so that they can view webpages and receive e-mails. Such software include;

a. Browser. It allows the institution to search URLs and view webpages as well as file transfer capabilities. Examples of browsers; Firefox, chrome, Netscape, internet explorer, opera mini and UC browser.
b.E-mail client. Allows the institution to send and receive e-mails and give access to news-groups, e.g. thunderbird, outlook, g-mail.

5. Modem. The school should acquire an always on GSM enabled modem which can allow 3G or 4G connection speeds for effective internet speeds. A Wi-Fi router can also be convenient and cheap to install.

6. Security. The computer environment should be in such a way that the computer is protected from physical theft, unauthorized access or attack by spyware, malware or viruses. This can be controlled by authentication, firewalls, antivirus, encryption and data integrity.

7. Trained personnel. The school should employ a computer expert who will ensure that the network is always available when needed and safe from malicious activities and who will also train the staff how navigate through the internet.
