Theft can be physical or logical. Physical theft include the break into an Information system environment and forcefully taking away the computer system hardware such as storage devices without permission. Logical theft include remote crimes such as hacking into an information system and performing illegal operations such as copying of data or modification.

Control measures.
(i) Create backups of information in various places.

(ii) Use forensic means of detecting software crimes such as hacking.

(iii) Always locking computer rooms when not in use.

(iv) Use security personnel to safeguard the information system environment.

(v) Use burglar proof doors and grills on weak access points like windows.
