In a beaker, half fill it with water. Boil the water and keep it at boiling point
Put the selected leaf in the boiling water for two minutes
Remove the leaf from the water and keep it in a boiling tube containing ethanol
Place the boiling tube in hot water for ten minutes
Gently remove the leaf and wash with cold water
Spread it on a white tile
Add a few drops of iodine/potassium iodide solution to the leaf and note any observations
OBSERVATION/INTERPRETION
No colour change(iodine solution remains brown)-starch is not present
iodine /potassium iodide solution solution changed from brown to blue-black-starch is present
