(a) It is evolutionary phenomena where organisms of the same embryonic origin become adapted in different ways in order to perform different functions. The organisms are separated due to natural factors and so adapt to different habitats.

(b) When an organism is exposed to drug for some time it becomes used to living in presence of the drug. The offspring mutate therefore survive in the presence of the drug and become drug resistant.
