i) Tom Mboya in 1952 - became a member of KAU. He was elected the director of information.

ii) 1953 - He became the treasurer of KAU before it was banned.

iii) 1957 - Mboya was elected to join Legco as member of Nairobi East constituency

iv) 1957 He formed the Nairobi's people's Convention Party (NPCP) and became its president

v) 1958 He joined AEMO and became the secretary. They opposed the Lyttelton and Lennox-Boyd constitutional reforms.

vi) In 1959 - He worked closely with Julius Nyerere of Tanzania in forming the Pan-African Freedom Movement for East and Central Africa

vii) 1960-Mboya was one of the delegates to the first Lancaster House Conference in London.

viii) 1960 KANU was formed and Mboya was elected the party's Secretary general

ix) In 1961 - In February, Mboya contested for the Nairobi South seat to Legco and won

x) 1962 - Mboya attended the second Lancaster House Conference. It led to a coalition government of KANU
