Add sulphuric acid to the mixture. Copper(II) oxide, a black solid and dilute sulfuric acid react to produce copper(II) sulfate, yielding a characteristic blue colour to the solution.Copper does not react with dilute sulphuric acid as its reduction potential is higher than that of hydrogen and therefore, does not displace hydrogen from dilute H2SO4.Filter the mixture to obtain copper turning as the residue and copper ii sulphate as the filtrate.Wash the residue to obtain pure copper and dry it between filter papers.
