(a) Japan is located in a very strategic place. It is accessible from all directions via sea. Ships from any part of the world can easily anchor at the ports in Japan, enabling raw materials from any part of the world's to reach the country by sea and Japan's manufactured products to be exported to any sort of the world through modern ports of Tokyo, Kobe, Nagoya and Osaka.

(b) Water is essential in many manufacturing industries. Japan has an abundant supply of water from its numerous rivers and small lakes. The water is used in the iron and steel industry whose products are used to make component parts used in the automobile and electronic industries.
