Maurice
(a) Two-wire cable: Is a transmission cable that consists of two parallel copper wires separated by a dielectric material.
They are used for low speed transmissions. They are heavily affected by cross-talk transmission impairment.

(b) Twisted pair cable: Is a transmission cable that consists of two copper wires entwined around each other in a spiral pattern so as to reduce electromagnetic interference.
There are two types of twisted pair cables namely:
(i) Unshielded Twisted pair (UTP).

(ii) Shielded Twisted Pair(STP).

(c) Coaxial cables: Is a transmission cable consisting of inner copper wire surrounded by insulation then a grounded shield of braided wire to minimize electromagnetic and radio frequency interference.
There are two types of coaxial cables namely:
(i) Thinnet.

(ii) Thicknet.

(d) Fibre optic cables: Is a transmission cable made up of strands of glass fibres that use pulses of light to send data signals from source to destination.
There are two types of fibre optic cable namely:
(i) Single mode fibre.

(ii) Multimode fibre.
