i. Web Browser
• Web Browser Is a software application which enables a user to display and interact with text, images, videos, music, games and other information typically located on a Web page at a website on the World Wide Web or a local area network (Examples: Opera, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape)
• A web browser is software application used to locate, retrieve and also display the contents of www including web pages and other files • Browsers used: Firefox, Google, internet explorer, opera.
• Browser techniques; direct access to the site pages through an address, email discussion, searching engine or internet
• The purpose of a web browser is to read HTML documents and compose them into visible or audible web pages.
• The browser does not display the HTML tags, but uses the tags to interpret the content of the page.
ii. WWW
• www for web is a user friendly point and click way of navigating data stored on internet.
• Graphics and text documents published on the internet that are connected through clickable hyper text links
• It is a bit like flicking through a huge magazine by clicking on the links with a mouse
• A means of advertising/ connecting to have a world access electronically
• It is used by entering a web address into your browser hence retrieving corresponding page from whenever it is stored on the internet and display from the screen.
iii. Web Design
• Web design is the process of planning and creating a website.
• Text, images, digital media and interactive elements used by web designers to produce the page seen on the web browser.
• Web designers utilize markup language, most notably HTML for structure and CSS for presentation as well as Java Script to add interactivity to develop pages that can be read by web browsers.
• Web design tools include; text editor like windows, web browser, ftp client, graphic editor.
• Web design involves a stepwise process- purpose, planning
• In general the process of web design can include conceptualization, planning, producing, post-production, research, advertising.
iv. Web Page
• These are specific sections that deal with particular topics of a website
• They form reference points of a website
• Putting a page on the web involves a two-step process; preparing it on HTML and then transferring it to your web space
• Text editors are used
• Should avoid violating copyright laws.
• The web pages should have valuable content for public consumption
v. Home page
• It is sometimes referred as the index page
• or URL of a website, usually serving as an introduction and having links to other pages in the website.
• It is associated with such terms as; DOMAIN NAME The unique name that identifies an Internet site. A domain name is an identification label that defines a dominion of control on the Internet, based on the Domain Name System (DNS). IP ADDRESS An (Internet Protocol address) is a numerical label that is assigned to any device participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes.
