The choices people make today have impacts in their lives. This is well illustrated in the text.

Akoko goes back to her matrimonial home. This is because her mother in law has been accusing her of witchcraft. She also accuses her of not bearing many children to compensate for her bride price. Akoko cannot withstand this. She therefore goes to her father's home. This helps Akoko a lot because everything is solved during the reconciliation.

Obura goes to see the world without his parents' permission. He is influenced by Nyaroche to go and see what is in the world. He is warned by his parents but he gives them a deaf ear. One day, Obura goes missing. His father sends people to look for him but to no avail. Obura is recruited in the second world war. Unfortunately, he dies in Tanganyika during the war. Obura's disobedience leads to his death.

Akoko makes an epic journey to Kisuma. This is in search of justice against the plunder of her wealth, Otieno. Otieno has been taking Akoko's hard earned wealth. He uses it to pay for the bride price of his wives. This becomes too much for Akoko to bear. She therefore goes to Kisuma to seek for justice from the sirikal. The D.O listens to Akoko's case. Otieno is finally forced to return her wealth. This relieves Akoko as justice is administered.

Nyabera goes to Aluor in search of the new religion. Nyabera hears Pilipo talking of a God who makes meaning out of sorrow in the new religion. She therefore decides to seek Christianity. She is baptized. After some time, she goes back to her home and brings her mother Akoko, Awiti and Owuor Sino with her. Nyabera's decision helps Awiti and Owuor to get education. They also get a conducive place for living in.

From the above illustrations, it is evident that good decisions bring about good effects while bad ones affect someone adversely. People should therefore be careful when making any choices in life.
