1. Education

Health education is an education intended to have a positive impact on health. It is a process of dialogue in a community so that members can find out appropriate response to health problems as well as empower them with knowledge and inside, they need to understand how their behaviour affects their health.

2. Local endemic diseases

Are diseases which present in a community at all times. There are many endemic diseases in our country Kenya, some of which are confined to a particular area for example malaria, trachoma and hookworm.

3. Expanded programme of immunization

Kenya has sometimes implemented immunization activities through Kenya Expanded Programme of Immunization. Immunization is a very effective method of primary interaction against certain endemic and epidemic diseases.

Health workers have been trained on how to motivate and encourage mothers to bring their children for immunization. Examples for vaccines given are; BCG, Polio, Measles, Yellow fever among others.

4. Maternal, child health and family planning.

Health care for mothers and children form greater part in community health.

Mothers and children also run a greater risk of injury and diseases because their lives are concerned at the beginning of growth. Health services are therefore aimed at promoting health of the mother and the child by reducing the maternal and mortality rate and enabling a woman of bearing age to have the right member of pregnancy or children at the right time.

5. Essential drugs

Are basic drugs used to treat minor diseases or conditions at the dispensary and health center levels. Kenya has been a pioneer in the establishment of an effective drug kit system which regulates and delivers drugs to health centers.

Community pharmacy has also been established in remote areas to improve accessible drugs in the community.

6. Nutrition

Kenya has facilitated promotion of food supply and proper nutrition. Nutritional deficiency state are particularly noticeable among pregnant and lactating mothers, infants and children. This may be due to prevailing cultural and economic factors in the community health leaders. It is everyone’s responsibility to support health promotional measures such as child spacing, nutrition, kitchen garden and hygiene.

7. Treatment and prevention of common diseases and injuries.

Curative care is important in its own right as it provides a powerful mechanism treating, preventive and promotive care
