Mark and recapture is a method commonly used in an ecological to estimate an organism's population size.In this method, a portion of the population of the organism under estimate is captured, marked, and released. Later, another portion is captured and the number of marked individuals within the sample is counted and calculations done using the formulae;
N=Kn/k
Where, N = Number of animals in the population
n = Number of animals marked on the first visit
K = Number of animals captured on the second visit
k = Number of recaptured animals that were marked
