(iii) The assimilation policy adopted by France on West Africa hindered Africans' concentration on Pan-Africanism.

(iv) Lack of communication amongst the Africans for they were under different European powers.

(v) There were only a few educated Africans.

(vi) The two independent countries, Ethiopia and Liberia never concentrated on unifying Africa.

(vii) Africans had concentrated on more pressing grievances than unity.
