(i) Geography helps students to develop the skills of reading,observing,analyzing and interpreting diagrams,charts,photographs,maps and statistical data.

(ii) Geography creates awareness in the people on the significance of environmental management and conservation,and the need to use resources exhaustively without wastage.

(iii) Geography prepares students for specializations like urban planning,meteorology,fisheries,forestry,agriculture,remote sensing,engineering and surveying.

(iv) Through geography,we are able to explain about the origin of earth and the solar system.

(v) It encourages international awareness,interaction and co-operation since it teaches interdependence among people and geographical phenomena, at local,national and international levels.

(vi) Geography enables the learners to understand and appreciate different environmental influences at work on different societies.

(vii) In learning Geography,one is able to acquire basic skills and knowledge,which contribute to local,regional and national development.

(viii) Through the study of fieldwork,geography teaches one on how to manage time properly by drawing a time schedule and adhering to it.
