The mantle is divided into two parts, the upper mantle and the lower mantle.
It lies between the crust and the core.
It has an average density of 3.0-3.3 gm/cc.
In the upper mantle, the rocks in this region are more elastic than those of sima and are hard rigid rocks. The temperature increases from about 10000C to 30000 as the depth increases. In the lower mantle, the rocks are in form of viscous fluid rocks. Most of the heating in the mantle is due to radioactive decay.Convectional currents responsible for earth movement are found here. The dominant mineral is olivine(Ferro-magnesium silicate).
