What are the factors facilitating deposition in rivers?

Give factors that facilitate deposition in rivers.

Maurice
(i) A river emptying into a calm water body: This causes the velocity of the river to be checked abruptly hence deposition.

(ii) Reduction of stream gradient: This causes reduction in velocity, thus the kinetic energy of the river also reduced. The river then deposits some of its load.

(iii) Decrease in the volume of water in the river: The capacity to transport its load reduces hence some of the load is dropped.

(iv) Nature and amount of the load: When the velocity of the river is reduced, the river begins to drop its load in an assorted manner.

(v) Freezing of the water like during cold seasons: When a river freezes, suspended load comes to a standstill hence deposition.

(vi) Presence of obstacles in the river channel: Such obstacles include rocks, tree trunks and plastics. They may act as filters, trapping some of the load being transported.

(vii) Widening of the river channel: When the river bed becomes wider, water spreads out over a large surface area. The volume of water per surface area is reduced.Water speed therefore slows down thus depositing some of the material.
