Larmackian theory was majorly based on the changes that occurred on an organism throughout their life time. These changes were then passed genetically to the offspring. He believed that the giraffe had a long neck because it continued to grow as it stretched it feeding all its life time.

Darwinian theory which was also known as the survival for the fitness had it that organisms possessed variations in terms of physical adaptations to their environment. This made some organisms to have more chances of survival and to reproduce compared to others. These variations appeared on each generation. The giraffe with the longest neck survived because it was able to feed on the leaves of tall trees unlike the giraffe with a less long neck.
