What is abrasion as a process of river erosion?

Discuss abrasion as a process of river erosion.

Answers

Maurice
As solid materials are transported downstream, they are hurled against the banks and dragged along the river bed. The rock materials chip off pieces of rock from the channel and river bed. The rock materials grind the river bank or bed. Eddy currents rotate pieces of rock around the hollows breaking the river bed.

OR

- Materials carried by wind such as sand grains scratching rock surfaces across the path of wind.
- Greater close to the ground because it’s where heavy and more effective abrasion tools are lifted and carried.
