a) They had lost heavily during the Akamba-British war of 1894 causing them to fear the British.

collaborating. For example, the Machakos station superintendent, Leith dispatched troops to deal with
Syonguu’s forces in 1891, causing merciless killings and looting of property.

e) They wanted to get guns to be used in robbing for wealth.
f) The Akamba had been weakened by the 1899 famine and were therefore unable to effectively tackle
the British.
