Rearrange the two equations

so that the same letters are together

y - 2x = -2
y + x = 10 -
= -2x - x = -2 - 10

-3x = -12; x = 4

Substitute x = 4 in either of the two equations

two equations

y + 4 = 10

y = 10 - 4

y = 6

value of a if y2 = 4ax is

36 = 4a x 4

36 = 16a;

a = $\frac{9}{4}$
