Let the cost of a shirt be s and a trouser be t.

trousers be t.

15s + 8t = 11 250 ................ (i)

Jack bought

$\frac{80}{100}$ x 15 = 12 shorts

$\frac{125}{100}$ x 8 = 10 trousers

12s + 10t = 11 700

Multiply eqn. (i) by 10 and eqn. (ii) by 8

150s + 80t = 112 500

196s + 80t = 93 600 -

54s = 18 900

s = 350

The cost of a shirt is sh 350
