Let the number of cows be x and hens be y.

A cow and a hen has 1 head each. Each cow has 4 legs

and each hen has 2 legs

x + y = 30 .............(i)

total number of heads

4x + 2y = 80 ................ (ii)

total number of legs

Multiply eqn. (i) by 2

2x + 2y = 60

4x + 2y = 80 - substruct

-2x = -20;

x = 10

Using x + y = 30

10 + y = 30;

y = 20

Cows are 10, hens are 20
