Describe how ice is formed on a high mountain.

(i) Due to low temperatures, water vapour freezes and forms snow which falls and accumulates on the mountain top or higher slopes. Snow continues pilling and new layer exerts pressure on the lower layer.

(ii) Lower layers become compressed or compacted as air is expelled from the spaces by now particles. The compacted layers are ice.
