A Lagoon refers to a shallow body of water separated from a larger body of water by reefs or barrier islands. It is formed when sand is moved by the long shore and deposited at the entrance of the bay. The deposits accumulate forming a sandbar. The continued deposition elongates the sandbar, eventually blocking the mouth of the bay forming a bay bar. The bay bar separates part of the sea water from the open sea. The enclosed sea water is the Lagoon.
