-They faced stiff resistance from the africans such as Majimaji war in 1905 and the Abushiri in 1888.
-The direct system enabled the British to be harsh and use force towards the Africans with no compromise thus making the Africans to provide the cheap labor and raw materials for their plantations.
-The British used the system to provide employment opportunities to Germans.
-The Germans thought that the Jumbes and the Akidas were in a better position to communicate with the local people on their behalf.
-The German saw the use of chiefs being backward since the African people could not even know how to lead themselves in order to meet the colonial interests.
