(b) Calculate the area on the map of woodland which occupies 36 metres by 36 metres on the ground.

Answers

(a) 1 cm rep 40 000 cm

3.25 cm rep x

x = 3.25 cm rep x

x = 3.25 x 40 000

$\frac{130 000}{100}$ = 1 300 metres

distance between the two

points on the ground is

1300 m

(b) 1 cm rep 40 000 cm

1 cm rep 400 m

1 cm² rep 16 000 m²

1 cm = 400 m on ground

? = 36 m on ground

$\frac{36}{400}$ = 0.09 cm

area on the map is 0.09 x 0.09 = 0.0081 m²
