(i) There is establishment NEMA/Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to coordinate environmental management and conservation activities.

(ii) The government is enacting laws to prohibit the cutting of trees without a licence.

(iii) The government is registering/recognizing the efforts of NGOs like the Green Belt Movement which have mounted campaigns on planting of trees.

(iv) The government is also gazetting forested areas to reduce encroachment of the public and creating public awareness through mass media/public barazas on the importance of conserving forest resources.

(v) It is carrying out research through KEFRI and ICRAF in order to come up with ways of controlling diseases or develop species suitable for different ecological regions.

(vi) It is encouraging recycling of papers or wood-based products to energy or use other sources of energy to reduce demand of trees.

(vii) The government is employing forest guards to protect forests from fires or other illegal human activities.

(viii) It is also advising people to practice agro-forestry so as to avoid cutting trees from the forests.

(ix) The government has set aside national tree planting day to encourage people to plant more trees.

2. Reafforestation; Trees are planted in areas where deforestation has taken place.
3. Legislation; People are required to seek permits to allow them to cut down trees. This reduces the rate of tree-felling.
4. Agro forestry; Trees are planted alongside crops. The trees may be grown between rows of crops.
5. Creation of forest reserves to conserves indigenous species. These reserves are patrolled by guards to ensure that fires are reported promptly and unlicensed people do not cut down trees.
