It refers to the duties ,rights, powers, responsibilities and authority , which by law a parent of a child has over the child and the child’s property in a manner consistent with the evolving capacities of the child.Its important because:
• It ensures maintenance of the child; each child’s welfare is safeguarded and every child is provided for by the parent.
• It ensures provision of adequate diet, shelter, clothing, medical care. It is the role of the parents to provide all the basic needs to safeguard the child’s survival rights,
• It ensures provision of education and guidance .Parents must ensure that children get education by enrolling them in school.
