Reasons for an organization establishing a computer network.

Computer network refers to a set of computers connecting together using cables or wireless connection in order to allow sharing of resources.

An organization may establish a computer network for the following reasons:

(a) File sharing - Networking of computers helps the users in an organization to share data files.

(b) It facilitates sharing of hardware devices such as printers,CD-ROM drives and hard drives.

(c) For communication - Computer networks allow users in an organization to communicate through e- mails and video conferencing.

(d) For application sharing - It allows sharing of applications hence enabling the implementation of client/server applications.

(e) Data protection - Networking computers in an organization makes it easy to back up all the data on off site server,CDs and external hard disks.

(f) It allows remote access whereby the users can access some files and data even when they are not in the office.
