Death takes away loved one from us,in the River and the source,Akoko's death greatly affects those she leaves behind as illustrated below.

i)Maria Okumu
When Akoko dies,Maria has to take courage,She did not believe it when Akoko who looked so well could die.she mourn the death of her mother, and as the writer says ,they needed her so much, how then could she die just like that.

ii)Elizabeth
Being young and new to the matters of death, she could not believe that the grandmother had passed on.She was more affected by the death of her grandmother's death. She had loved her grandmother dearly and admired her and desperately tried to identify with her aspirations.Elizabeth wept in confusion, anger and grief. She couldn't see how she would enjoy life in marriage and get children without her grandmother.

iii)Peter Owour Kembo
Akoko was both a father and mother to Peter, like his grandmother,he knew that what he wanted he was going to get it at whatever cost.He would have been very happy to have his grandmother present at his final vows to priesthood from bishop. He has a strong feeling that grandmother must be watching over them from the world of the dead.

From the above,it is clear that the three people closest to Akoko were affected by his death, she had been their life, inspiration and the greatest gift that god of the rising sun had given them. Each of them found a way to cope with her passing away but still life had to go on.
