-Fungi grow between root cortical cells.
-Form a mantle that covers the root surface.
-Roots develop a swollen appearance.

-May develop above-ground fruiting bodies.
-Examples are Mushrooms and puffballs.
-Common in pine, spruce, fir, beech, eucalyptus, alder, oak, and hickory.
