(i) The sector is a source of income to farmers and has led to improved standards of living.

(ii) Its development will lead to industrialization in the country for example, opening up of fruit canning and manufacture of vegetable oils. This will improve the economy of the country.

(iii) The expansion of the sector will ensure effective use of land which would otherwise be idle.

(iv) Many Kenyans are employed in the sector either as pickers, transporters and packers hence improving their living standards.

(v) The government also reduce the rate of unemployment.

(vi) Export of products earns Kenya foreign exchange which can be used to develop other sectors like transport.
