(i) It led to shortening road between the province of North Holland and Friesland.

(ii) Lowered degree of salinity in the polders by fresh water from Lake Ijssel thus promoting cultivation of crops and rearing livestock.

(iii) Fresh water reservoirs serve as catchments basin during the winter when water levels on the outside present natural drainage.

(iv) Lake Ijssel provides fresh water to the province of North Holland which is used for irrigation, domestic and industrial purposes.

(v) A 32 km long barrier dam created Lake Ijssel which is a fresh water lake for irrigation industrial use and domestic purposes.

(vi) Better drainage system thus reduced flooding through dykes, canals, ditches and pumping stations.

(vii) Increases arable land by 10% of the total land areas for crop cultivation and dairy farming crops such as potatoes, fruits, rye, wheat, oats, barley, among others.
