A fishing boat is at rest on sea water with a steel anchor over the side. Explain what would happen to the volume of displaced water by the boat when:
a) the anchor is lowered and left hanging in water
b) the anchor rests on the bed at the sea.

a)on lowering the anchor but left hanging in the water, the amount of the displaced volume of water will substantially reduce, the slight reduce is due to the fact that some weight of the anchor is countered by the density of water unlike when it is in air and on the boat.
b) On lowering the anchor fully till it rests on the water bed, it's weight is nullified,it is acting on the water bed but not on the boat hence the volume of the displaced water will only be affected by the weight of the boat only thus a much more reduced volume of displaced water.
