i) Peer pressure from other children in the urban area leads to low self esteem/ confidence of the child.

ii) School strains on physical facilities such as classrooms/ sanitation/ play equipment affects the health of the child

iii) Financial constraints/ high cost of living thus parents are not able to provide for basic necessities such as uniform and shoes which are school requirements.

iv) Children attend poor nursery schools in the urban set up which affects their foundation

v) Children are taken to ECDE centres at an early age which affects their development

vi) Teacher attrition - trained teachers leave rural areas for greener pastures leaving rural ECDE centres with untrained teacher

vii) Lack of employment for those teachers who leave rural areas to look for jobs in urban areas
