a) It is necessary to distinguish between direct labour and indirect labour because
Direct labour can be traced to the final product and hence a primary cost that is charged in
production and thus affect the gross profit that will be achieved whereas indirect labour cannot be
directly traced to the final output and thus categorized as an overhead expenses other than that of
production thus have a direct impact on net profit.
