(i)It has lignified xylem (screlenchyma);that support lamina and hold it in a suitable position; for absorption of light and gaseous exchange.

(ii)Xylem vessels for transport of water and mineral salts;and phloem tubes for translocation of food;are present in veins.

(iii)The cells have numerous chloroplasts to absorb maximum light.
Cells are closely packed and placed next to upper epidermis to trap/absorb maximum light.

(iv)Inner walls (facing stoma)are thick while outer walls are thin.
Controls opening and closing of stoma/size of stoma;for transpiration and gaseous exchange.
