When the temperature is high the following will happen to reduce the temperature.
a. Vasodilation of skin blood vessels. (this is caused by inhibition of the sympathetic centers in the
posterior hypothalamus that cause vasoconstriction). This increases rate of heat transfer to the
skin.
b. Sweating leads to an increase in rate of evaporative heat loss.
c. Decrease in heat production. The mechanisms that cause excess heat production, such as
shivering, are strongly inhibited.
