i. Complete: a paragraph should accomplish the task it was intended to. This involves
elaborating the concept with illustrations and back-up examples.
ii. Unified: an implied or explicit idea is developed in a paragraph. The paragraph should
present only materials and supporting details which are clearly related to the ideas dealt
with in the statement of purpose.
iii. Orderly (sentence sequence): ideas related to a single aspect of the major topic should be
grouped together and developed fully before another aspect is introduced. Order can be
achieved through:
? Chronological arrangement –involves ordering events and acts in a time perspective,
from the oldest to the most recent.
? Space sequence where observations are described according to the way they occur as you
watch them.
