-The vertebral column consists of a series of vertebrae; held together loosely so that it is flexible.
-Myotomes/muscles; associated with vertebrae produce movement.
-The sideways and backward thrust of the tail and body against water; produce resistance to water and pushes the fish sideways and forwards.
-The head is not flexible;so as to maintain the forward thrust.
-Body is streamlined; to reduce resistance.
-Has fins;which help in propulsion/balance in water.
-Paired fins/pelvic and pectoral;control pitch(up and down movement in water.slows down/stop movement.
-Unpaired fins/dorsal,ventral,anal are for rolling ;yawning;tail fin has a large surface area for forward propulsion.
-Has swim bladder for buoyancy.
-Scales taper forwards the back/overlap forwards to provide smooth surface.
-Mucus on the surface makes fish waterproof.
