Early on the Easter Sunday, the Governor ignores beggars and petitioners on claims that he is attending mass.It is Ironical that he spends time to supervise the extension of the palace he will not even spend the night on.

Natella escaping and leaving the child baby Michael alone to be taken care and raised by the house girl Grusha is ironical, all that mattered to her were her expensive clothes and the wealth the governor left behind.

It is also ironical at the end of the play for Natella to come and ask for possession of Michael. It is not as if she care a lot for the baby but she is after the wealth her husband left behind for baby Michael. The Irony again is seen when Natella accuses Grusha for stealing the child yet we know that Grusha took care of the child.

It is ironical; for Lavrenti to treat his sister Grusha the way he did when she came visiting, instead of giving her a warm welcome. We learn that he organised for Grusha to marry a dying man.It is also Ironical for Lavrenti's wife Aniko to treat Grusha badly yet she claims to be religious.
Life is generally characterized by many instances of irony as we have seen above.
