A. Concept of person hood in religion
New medical and genetic techniques complicate the issue of identifying person hood. Human cloning, IVF and genetic engineering make the definition difficult. Hinman, 2000:36 discusses the following criteria in determining person-hood.
1. If you are conceived by human parents, you are human.
2. A human genetic code is a condition of person-hood. All the genetic code is fully present in a fetus at the time of conception. Therefore a fetus has rights of a person.
3. Something which looks like human is human.
4. A fetus has a soul therefore it is a person

B. Person-hood in scientific view point.
Contemporary biomedical practitioners seem to undervalue life, its purpose and importance. Scientists see humans nothing but a complex animal because of the following:
a) Performing experiments on humans.
b) Destroying life through abortion,
c) Promoting the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction etc.
d) Relating animals to humans during experimentation.
e) Trying to choose the genes of a human to be what his wasn’t through genetic engineering e.g. influencing the sex of the child through fertility drugs.
